Homemade Pizza Recipe
This is the easiest homemade pizza dough - no stand mixer, no fuss. It’s soft, chewy, and makes the perfect base for whatever toppings you’ve got. I used tomato sauce, ham, sausage, and cheese, but you can make it your own with anything in the fridge. Cheap, filling, and always a crowd-pleaser.
Servings: 4
Cost per person: approx. $2.50
Prep time: 15 minutes (plus 1 hour rising)
Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
For the dough:
· 8g yeast (approx. 1 tablespoon)
· 1/4 tsp sugar
· 1/3 cup warm water (for blooming the yeast)
· 800g flour (high grade, regular, or wholemeal)
· 2 cups (500mL) water
· Up to 1/4 cup extra water, if needed
· 1/2 teaspoon salt
· 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
For the toppings (use whatever you have):
· Tomato sauce or passata (I blended fresh tomatoes)
· Ham
· Sausage
· Cheese
· Oregano or dried herbs
Method
1. Bloom the yeast: In a small bowl, mix the yeast, sugar, and 1/3 cup warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Make the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, 2 cups water, salt, and the yeast mixture. Mix and knead until smooth (around 5 minutes).
3. If the dough is dry, add a bit more water. Halfway through kneading, add olive oil if using.
4. Return the dough to the bowl, cover with a tea towel, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
5. Preheat oven to 225°C (437°F).
6. Roll out your dough into a large rectangle or shape of choice. Place it on a lined baking tray.
7. Add your tomato sauce and toppings of choice.
8. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden and bubbling. (Cooking time may vary depending on pizza size.)
