Garlic Bread
Makes: 8-10 knots
Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Ingredients
For the Dough:
220g warm water
1 tsp dried yeast
300g plain flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp oil
For the Garlic Butter:
8 cloves garlic, peeled
1 tbsp oil
50g soft butter
Enough water to cover the garlic
Method
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and oil. Add the yeast mixture and mix to form a dough.
Knead for a few minutes until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let it rest for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
While the dough rises, make the garlic butter. Place the peeled garlic cloves, 1 tbsp oil, and enough water to cover in a small pot. Simmer until the garlic is soft. Remove the cloves and mash them into the soft butter.
Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Spread the garlic butter over the surface.
Cut the rectangle into strips about 4cm wide. Roll each strip into a little log or twist into a knot.
Place the knots on a lined baking tray and proof for another 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 200°C. Bake for 14 minutes, until golden brown.
