This classic chocolate chip cookie recipe is for those moments you want to treat yourself. Rich butter, brown sugar, and heaps of chocolate chips come together to create the perfect balance of chewy and crispy in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 130 g soft butter

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup white sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste

  • 1 1/2 cups flour (or gluten-free flour)

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

  • Pinch of salt (omit if using salted butter)

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped chocolate or chocolate chips

  • Maldon sea salt, optional

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F).

  2. Cream together butter and both sugars until light and fluffy.

  3. Add egg and vanilla paste and beat until combined.

  4. Stir through flour, baking powder, salt, and chocolate.

  5. Roll dough into golf ball-sized portions and place on a lined baking tray. Flatten slightly.

  6. Bake for 13–16 minutes until golden at edges and soft in the centre.

  7. Cool at least 10 minutes before eating. Optionally sprinkle with Maldon sea salt.
